We are inviting talented sculptors and carving artists to apply for the first Sunshine Coast Sculpture Symposium, taking place Wednesday–Sunday, July 16–20, 2025. This 5-day event will bring together artists and the community to create lasting public artworks while engaging visitors through workshops, talks, and demonstrations.
We are looking for artists who:
Work with chainsaws, wood, or other natural materials (other media may be considered for workshops or talks).
Are passionate about community engagement and public art.
Can commit to participating for the full duration of the symposium.
What we provide:
Workspace
A designated carving space for the duration of the 5-day event.
Access to onsite safety guidelines and first-aid support.
Volunteers may assist with moving sculptures within the site.
Accommodation & Meals
Limited accommodations may be provided for out-of-town artists.
Basic meals or refreshments available during the symposium (details provided upon selection).
Public Exposure
Sculptures displayed publicly throughout the event.
Artists may choose to present demonstrations or short talks to the public about their process and techniques.
Participation in event marketing and promotional materials (website, social media, flyers) to help showcase the artist and their work.
Awards & Recognition
Cash prizes for top sculptures, awarded by a judging panel.
Certificates or recognition for all participating artists.
Sales Facilitation
Artists may choose to sell their work during or after the symposium.
Gaia Art Hub facilitates all sales and applies a [30%] commission on sold sculptures.
Artists who choose not to sell retain full ownership and are responsible for transport after the event.
